Next year, gifting to children will become more expensive. The gift rate of 5 and 8 per cent will be abolished on 1 January 2010. Parents who wish to gift their children more than the exempted amount should expect the children to pay at least 10 (!) per cent gift tax after 1 January 2010. Giving a gift of €45,000 by a parent to their child could therefore become thousands of euros more expensive next year.
