Treatment ban

In a treatment ban declaration, you can describe whether and in which cases of hopeless and unbearable suffering you want doctors to cease treatment. It is thus somewhat different from a declaration of euthanasia. In it, you describe the situations in which you want your life to be actively ended.

A treatment ban can include a resuscitation ban. If you want a ban on resuscitation, it is also useful to indicate this clearly on your body. For example, by means of a necklace with a notice regarding the CPR ban or a tattoo.

If you want no further treatment in case of hopeless and unbearable suffering, you can also choose to describe what you consider to be hopeless and unbearable suffering. For some people, this refers only to physical suffering; others consider mental suffering, no longer being able to function independently and/or no longer being able to communicate a reason not to want to continue living. Progressive dementia in a situation where the partner and/or children are no longer recognised can also be a reason for a person not wanting to continue living.

A treatment ban declaration is part of a living will and can be part of a living will.
