Statement of competence

If something is to be signed for and on behalf of a legal entity, the opposing party will often want certainty as to the authority of the signatory. This will be particularly the case in international matters. Official bodies abroad will certainly want a declaration of your authority in addition to the legalisation of your signature.

The notary can assess the content of the document to be signed, consult the legal entity's articles of association and the public registers, and request any other documents of importance. After the assessment, we will issue a certificate of authority.

If we have to rely on a power of attorney signed on behalf of a foreign legal entity, we require a lawyer in the country concerned to issue a similar declaration regarding the competence of the person acting on behalf of the foreign legal entity.

For more information on a declaration of competence, please contact us. We will be happy to advise you.
