Mortgage redemption / cancellation

A mortgage loan may be repaid because the period for which the loan was granted has expired and all instalments of the loan have been paid. A mortgage can also be repaid by paying off the remaining debt to the bank in one go. The latter may be the case when the house is sold. But it may also be the case that repayment is made from your own resources because, for example, you have received an inheritance or gift that enables you to repay.

Although there is no longer a debt with the bank after full repayment, the mortgage is still listed at the land registry. When the house is sold, the notary who arranges the transfer will himself take the initiative and arrange for the removal (cancellation) of the mortgage from the land register. If the term has expired or you have redeemed it yourself, you will need to contact a notary who can arrange for this cancellation.

If you wish to have your mortgage cancelled, please contact us. We will be happy to advise you.
