What does settling an estate involve, in the Rotterdam region?

In order to determine the size and composition of the estate, an inventory (things, claims, debts, etc.) can be made. The heirs will want to know this so they can determine whether or not to accept the estate. Once it is known which heirs have accepted the estate, a certificate of inheritance can be issued. This certificate of inheritance will provide bodies with clarity as to who are entitled to the estate, who may administer the estate and the settlement, and to whom they may provide information, in the Rotterdam region or elsewhere.
A lot of administrative actions will have to be performed (writing to banks and institutions, stopping current subscriptions, paying current debts and collecting receivables, etc.).
In addition, specific assets often require extra attention, such as the deceased's own home, the mortgage deed-notary-rotterdam">mortgage debt, the deceased's company or a securities portfolio. Finally, a tax return needs to be filed with the tax authorities for inheritance tax. Typically, settling an estate takes about a year to a year and a half. Who should settle?

Initially, the heirs have the task of settling the estate. Who the heirs are is stated in the deceased's will and, in the absence of a will, in the law. However, the deceased may also have appointed an executor and/or a settlement trustee with that task in his will.
